Saturday Night Live is one of television's most popular shows. With a new episode every week, its audience keeps coming back, wanting more. This show is nothing but comedy sketches which parody contemporary culture and politics. The cast varies from celebrities hosting, to new comers mixed with some old heads. The celebrity host plays along with the cast, being in many skits throughout the night and sometimes, the sketch is even about them!
Intertextuality is prevalent in every Saturday Night Live show. The cast is imitating popular events that happened that week and making them funny. This may be frowned upon, but I do not think that Saturday Night Live crosses the line by any means; some people are very sensitive though.

This skit accomplishes intertextuality because it “is not new”. This clip is obviously imitating Disney's Aladdin. Saturday Night Lives uses the “The Magic Carpet Ride” scene to ridicule Aladdin and Jasmine’s love, which I am sure would just be a unhappy relationship today. Aladdin was released in 1992, so SNL used it for ideas for their skits. They didn’t come up with the “magic carpet ride” on their own. Here SNL is trying to reach out to the adults who used to watch Aladdin when they were children because they are now older and grown up. Here they are making fun of the “romantic love” we learned as a child.
