In one of my sources, Miss America Then and Now from Time Magazine, shows many pictures of the Miss America Pageant in the beginning. When it first started out, there were just random title holders, unlike today where there has to be a winner from each state (including Puerto Rico, Washington DC, and Virgin Islands). The way that these pictures are presented gives its audience a grasp on what pageant life was like when it first began, and even more so how different it is today.
