Pageants have been around for over eighty years. It is safe to say a lot has happened over eight years, so let's take a look to see if big events, especially the feminist movement in the 1960s, in the United States affected the Miss America pageant.
I'm so glad you chose this topic! I can read your enthusiasm in your proposal when you offer historical information. I also very much appreciation your honesty with regard to your bias and resulting hesitation. Of course, you will find scholarly materials/books that present a feminist reaction to beauty pageants, and I encourage to explore those. But please be clear that I'm not trying to change your mind, and I'm not trying for you to become a pageant-hater, and certainly not trying to bring you over to the other side to become a feminist, if that's not what you want. But, this is college, and it is here that we ask you to challenge your ideas, not because there is something wrong with your ideas, but because challenging them will allow you to grow as a person. I think you're afraid that if you read a feminist attack on beauty pageants, then suddenly you're not going to like them anymore, and that may happen, but it certainly doesn't have to. Good Work! I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!!

I love your topic! And I think that it's really cool that you can relate it to so much history and other types of books. Love it!
